Item 1: Poem
WHAT ARE WORDS?
Chris Medina
Anywhere
you are, I am near
Anywhere you go, I'll be there
Anytime you whisper my name, you'll see
How every single promise I keep
Because what kind of guy would I be
If I was to leave when you need me most
What are words
If you really don't mean them
When you say them
What are words
If they're only for good times
Then they don't
When it's love
Yeah, you say them out loud
Those words, They never go away
They live on, even when we're gone
And I know an angel was sent just for me
And I know I'm meant to be where I am
And I'm gonna be
Standing right beside her tonight
And I'm gonna be by your side
I would never leave when she needs me most
I'm forever keeping my angel close.
Anywhere you go, I'll be there
Anytime you whisper my name, you'll see
How every single promise I keep
Because what kind of guy would I be
If I was to leave when you need me most
What are words
If you really don't mean them
When you say them
What are words
If they're only for good times
Then they don't
When it's love
Yeah, you say them out loud
Those words, They never go away
They live on, even when we're gone
And I know an angel was sent just for me
And I know I'm meant to be where I am
And I'm gonna be
Standing right beside her tonight
And I'm gonna be by your side
I would never leave when she needs me most
I'm forever keeping my angel close.
v Rhetorical Devices:
Ø Rhyme: see- keep- be, right- beside- tonight,
leave- need
Ø Repetition:
-
Anywhere you…
-
What
are words if…
-
And I know….
Ø Metaphor: angel: the author’s beloved darling.
- Message: whatever happens, “I” always be there for “she” because “she” is an angel of “my” life.
Item 2: Story
Stories of
two notes
A US $1 note met a US $ 20 note.
The US 1 $ note asked:
- Hey, my friend. Where have you
been since our last meet?
- Oh, I have been in a lot of
places: casinos, coffee shops, horse – race gambles... I have just back from
traveling in Europe. And now I am in American. And you?
- You know already! I have traveled
in charity boxes, churches and orphanages....
v Rhetorical
devices:
·
Metaphor:
Ø A US $ 1
note and a US $ 20 note represent the give and take.
Ø A US 1 $
note: what people “give” – what they spend for other people on
public and social activities such as charity…
Ø A US 20 $
note: what people “ take” – What they spend for themselves on individual
purposes to satisfy their desire
- Message: people seem to be quite selfish when they spend too much on private desire but too little on humanity activities. The life needs give and take. We should give more and more to express our humanity instead of wasting money on unnecessary recreation.
Item 3: Cartoon
v Rhetorical devices:
·
Metaphor:
Ø The octopus, the cock and the snake
(China)
Ø The S shape, the hen (Vietnam)
v Message:
China is dangerous and villainous. In diplomatic
relationships with China, Vietnam must be very cautious to maintain the
independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country.
Item 3: From my view point, your message relates to sensitive matter, so you should mention more cleverly because you said that China is dangerous and villainous, it's quite subjective and it's very easy to make conflict! It's just my advice!
Trả lờiXóaI agree with Ngoc because you mentioned to a sensitive matter in 3rd picture. Besides, I am impressed by your story, nice story. :D
Trả lờiXóa- In the poem, I think there also has a rhetorical question: “What are words”. Moreover, about your message, I suggest that you give something like the lessons you learn from that, not just what you can see from the author’s real situation. I mean, for example, for me this poem contains much more than that as it shows a big scarification for love of the people. You can consider that ^^
Trả lờiXóa- I like your story and the meaningful lesson of it. I totally agree with you that charity work is a respectful action, and people should do it more in stead of just spending too much money on unnecessary recreation.
- In the last item, I think the snake is the symbol of the cruel, so in can be said that symbol device is used here. I agree with the two other comments that this picture shows a sensitive issue. You should also consider again the message.
Anyway, wish you perform well in your presentation tomorrow :)
I agree with Ha and Ngoc. from the picture you may have said that you should not too trust on the enermy though you have a strong relationship with them. It's my opion.
Trả lờiXóaHere are some my comments. I hope they will be useful for you.
Trả lờiXóa- Item 1: I agree with Thuong that you should add rhetorical question (What are words?) as an rhetorical device used in this item. Furthermore, the message you provided is so general that I cannot understand. What do "I", "she" and "my" represent for? You need to make them clearer to get a completed item.
- Item 2: You did contribute a moral lesson about "give" and "take". I completely satisfy with the rhetorical device and the message you stated in the item.
- Item 3: The last item lacks rhetorical question (Brother?). As far as I'm concerned, the shape of the letter "S" is considered as the symbol of Vietnam. Therefore, apart from metaphor you should add symbol as another rhetorical device. Last but not least, you need to rewrite the message to avoid misunderstanding
For your item 3, i want to add another rhetorical device which is IRONY: " We are good brothers", cause China just takes advantage of the close relatiobship between China and Vietnam to appropriate Vietnam's islands. In addition, there is still one last rhetorical device - RHETORICAL QUESTION :" Brothers?"
Trả lờiXóaI hope my comment is useful with you:)
