 Item 2:

Rising // Rise

© SAGAR YADAV
I will rise
After every fall
I will rise
and stand even more tall

I will rise
over the wall
I will rise
above them all

Like the sun
which never dies
though sets every night
every day it does rise

Like the ocean
whose tides
many times they are down
but invariably they rise

Like the trees
from seeds they arise
and heights great
they rise and rise

After falling once,
twice and thrice
Again and again
I will rise and rise

I will rise
after every fall
After every fall
I will rise

Item 3:

One day, a poor boy who was selling goods from door to door to pay his way through school, found he had only one thin dime left, and he was hungry. He decided he would ask for a meal at the next house. However, he lost his nerve when a lovely young woman opened the door. Instead of a meal he asked for a drink of water. She thought he looked hungry so brought him a large glass of milk. He drank it slowly, and then asked, “How much do I owe you?” “You don’t owe me anything,” she replied. “Mother has taught us never to accept pay for a kindness.” He said, “Then I thank you from my heart.”
As Howard Kelly left that house, he not only felt stronger physically, but his faith in God and man was strong also. He had been ready to give up and quit.
Year’s later that young woman became critically ill. The local doctors were baffled. They finally sent her to the big city, where they called in specialists to study her rare disease. Dr. Howard Kelly was called in for the consultation. When he heard the name of the town she came from, a strange light filled his eyes. Immediately he rose and went down the hall of the hospital to her room. Dressed in his doctor’s gown he went in to see her. He recognized her at once. He went back to the consultation room determined to do his best to save her life. From that day he gave special attention to the case.
After a long struggle, the battle was won. Dr. Kelly requested the business office to pass the final bill to him for approval. He looked at it, then wrote something on the edge and the bill was sent to her room. She feared to open it, for she was sure it would take the rest of her life to pay for it all. Finally she looked, and something caught her attention on the side of the bill. She began to read the following words:
“Paid in full with one glass of milk”
Signed, Dr. Howard Kelly.

Message:
The story is a true reflection of the proverb " One good turn deserves another ". All acts of kindness come back to you, some way, some how so don't hestitate to help other people if possible.

5 nhận xét:

  1. 1. Item 1: I think symbol device is used in this pictute instead of metaphor device
    2. Item 2: In my opinion, the message should concentrate more about rising after fall rather than difficulties or challenges.
I like your poem and story. those are really great lessons for us.

  2. - I do agree with the message that you give in the cartoon. From what I can see, there is a connection between the war and the death, I think metaphor is using here; they are like close friends when talking and laughing with each other. But there also has symbol using here when you show that the soldier indicates the war, and the skull refers to the death. That’s why I think the cartoon aims at warning people about the bad effect of war to human life, as war can kill many people.

    - In the 2nd item, I have the same idea with you for all the rhetorical devices you have given. However, I do think that this poem wants to encourage us to have the attempt to overcome any troubles in our lives to grow up.

    - I like your story very much. It’s such a touching lesson

Good luck for you presentation tomorrow. I hope my comments somehow help you ^^

  5. hi Như I have somwe comments for U :). first I like your meaning story in item3; however maybe you had a mistake in item 1 .the Rhetorical device here is symbol, not metaphor. It is obvious that the death symbolizes death. :). In the message, i agree with You that war is always enclosed with the death.however, You should follow Hoa's cmt :)
about message in Item2, I have another opion : time and failure make human being become more grow and mature.
